Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The word Reiki (Universal Life Force Energy) comes from the Japanese word “Rei”, which means “Universal Life”, and “Ki”, which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not massage nor is it based on belief or suggestion. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy.
At the simplest, most obvious level, Reiki treatments help lessen the impact of stress, releasing tension from the entire system. Not only does the person move toward his or her own unique balance in body, mind and spirit, but also, depending on the level of physical health when Reiki begins, the body’s own healing mechanisms often begin functioning more effectively.

What To Expect
A reiki session is generally performed in a quiet setting with the individual being fully clothed. A session is usually 30 or 60 minutes long. The practitioner will explain the process, and ask what you are hoping to achieve from your session. Be sure to let the practitioner know if you have any health conditions that might impact your lying flat on your back or front or if you have any areas that may be sensitive to touch.
Reiki is generally offered through light, non-invasive touch with the practitioner’s hands lightly placed and held on a series of locations on the head and front and back of the torso.
It may also involve the use of crystal placings and herbal smudging if preferred. A recipient may feel a warming sensation or a tingling, but as the session progresses you will feel more relaxed. If you become uncomfortable, you can adjust your position at any time. Be sure to ask for anything that will add to your comfort as this is your special time and your practitioner is there to help you.
Reiki is cumulative in its effect and even people who don’t notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue. Reiki has not been found to have any adverse effects, has no known contraindications, and can be used concurrently with any medical intervention. There is increasing research documenting the effects of Reiki such as lowered heart rate, blood pressure, and stress hormones as well as increased immune strength.
If you are unsure about reiki or have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are more than happy to address any questions or concerns you may have.
